Next Angry Birds Seasons iteration coming later this month

Next Angry Birds Seasons iteration coming later this month, Chinese New Year-themed?

We all know what Angry Birds is, right? Well if you don’t, chances are you’ve never owned a smartphone in your life or something. Anyway, the next Angry Birds seasons update is on its way to mobile OS platforms and is scheduled for this January.

The theme of the next Seasons chapter is Chinese in origin, which isn’t exactly the first we’ve seen. We’re guessing it will be connected somehow with the fact that Chinese New Year is celebrated on January 23 this year.

Here’s the promo video which is not without subtle clues as to what we’re about to see. You’ll notice two dragon transitions in the video that have an apparent mighty eagle feel to them. We’re maybe in for a mighty dragon this time, as China is entering the year of the dragon.

Hopefully those who’ve paid for the mighty eagle add-on won’t be forced to pay for the dragon one too – if it actually makes it to the game.

If it turns out that the new edition is indeed dedicated to the Chinese New Year, it won’t be the first edition centered around Chinese holidays. Anyway, I bet it’s going to be fun.

New XPERIA Play ads get creepier and creepier

New XPERIA Play ads get creepier and creepier, even iPhone isn’t safe anymore

Sony Ericsson is hard at work with the XPERIA Play media campaign. You can really tell it’s very important for Sony Ericsson to sell the life out of this device.

The latest slew of ads feature this lunatic woman (in real life american actress Kristen Schaal, who’s actually not insane or possessed ), which absolutely looses it in front of the camera, delivering satanic messages and plain old craziness.

In one of them even the iPhone 4 gets “Pwned” and its owner stabbed in all sorts of places by the XPERIA Play-yielding player. The iPhone 4 proves absolutely useless against the advanced gaming controls of the XPERIA Play.

While we’re not so sure this is the real deal, we’ll just have to wait for it to arrive in our office so that we can give it a spin. Heck, we’ll even let the XPERIA Play loose on the iPhone 4 and check out the results.

Anyway here are the rest of the videos for you to… um, enjoy, we guess!

A desktop AMD FX CPU wins the Guiness overclocking world record

A desktop AMD FX CPU wins the Guiness overclocking world record, hits a staggering 8.429GHz [VIDEO]

We as a race have always had a fascination with speed, making faster cars with better aerodynamics, pushing the global network faster and faster with fiber optic broadband and for power users, a PC needs a lightning fast brain to deal with those heavy duty tasks.

holy cow!

But what about trying to squeeze the greatest clock speed you can out of a stock CPU, just for the sake of it. That’s exactly what AMD set out to do to show off their latest Bulldozer-based FX chips and so they brought in the best they knew from the overclocking community to attempt a world record. Using a desktop PC with a new 8-core AMD FX chip, the team managed to push the clock speed to 8.429GHz, with a little help from some liquid nitrogen and helium cooling of course, but this smashed the previous record of 8.30GHz and propelled AMD to the top spot, winning the Guiness World Record title.

So Intel, are you scared yet?

Hitachi shows off bright 4

Hitachi shows off bright 4.5-inch LCD IPS display that does glasses-free 3D and has 720p resolution

Hitachi announced a new mobile IPS LCD display that also does glasses-free 3D. It’s quite a beast at 4.5″ and 720p resolution (1280 x 720 pixels) and it uses lenticular technology to create the stereoscopic effect, which allows it to be brighter when displaying 3D images.

Hitachi say that typical glasses-free 3D displays (that use a parallax barrier) have their brightness cut in half when showing 3D content. Not so with their new display – it’s actually brighter in 3D mode.

The display uses IPS technology, which means we can expect good viewing anglesy from it. It’s rated at 400 nits in 2D mode and the number jumps to 470 nits in 3D mode. Those are very good numbers, especially considering one of the major banes of 3D right now is just how dim it is (there was a lot of talk of how cinemas display very dim 3D movies, Michael Bay even wrote a letter to projectionists).

One more thing – a quick calculation shows that 720p resolution at 4.5″ means exactly 326 ppi, the exact number of the iPhone 4′s Retina display pixel density. I’m sure it’s not a coincidence but it’s strange that Hitachi didnt brag about it.

Nokia X6 enters the review queue in all its capacitive goodness

Nokia X6 enters the review queue in all its capacitive goodness

I do admit that GSMArena.com is running a bit late on X6 review. Unfortunately sometimes getting the phones is not as easy as some of you might think. Especially when we are talking a handset of such high public interest as the Nokia X6, on which everyone wants to get their hands.

Nokia X6Nokia X6Nokia X6Nokia X6
Nokia X6 at ours

But now that we have it in, we can guarantee you that we will do our best to come up with a detailed review as soon as possible. But for now we have prepared a short unboxing video as a brief warm-up. This will also give you a chance to ask some questions that you want answered in the review.

From what our first impressions show the Nokia X6 is basically a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic mainboard, blessed with the 5530 software and a capacitive display. Okay there are a few other novelties but the handset is almost exclusively about the capacitive display.

Nokia produced one of the best resistive displays in business (N900, N97 and N97 mini) but even they realized that this technology has its limitations. So here goes the next logical step in their touchscreen evolution.

The other key feature of the Nokia X6 is the Nokia WH-500 headphones that are included in the retail package. Powerful and nicely designed, they promise to change the way we look at inbox accessories for good.

Those and many more will be discussed in great depth in the full review. Now kick back and enjoy the video.

2 GHz Samsung Galaxy S II benchmarked

1.2 GHz Samsung Galaxy S II benchmarked, shows mind-blowing speed

Okay we can’t say we are stunned since the 1GHz Galaxy S II was already blazing fast, but 1.2GHz version benchmark results are still pretty impressive. Obviously Samsung has not only managed to crank the clock speed up a notch, but they have also improved their drivers as the tested unit is 25% faster than the one we had at the office.

Apparently in their current states the Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II is about twice as good as the HTC Sensation (or Pyramid if you will) on Smartbench, where it got 3732 in productivity and 2431 in gaming and it even manages to beat it at Quadrant with the astounding 3053 points. And that’s despite the framerate cap, which doesn’t allow the Galaxy S II to reveal its full potential.

Of course that has quite a lot more to do with the Sensation drivers being far from finished then the Galaxy S II being really that much faster. Still it’s yet another confirmation that if you want flawless performance the new Samsung flagship will be more than capable of delivering it.

A bunch of new Windows 8 ads surface

A bunch of new Windows 8 ads surface, hilarity ensues

With Windows 8 not outpacing its predecessor in terms of sales and popularity, Microsoft’s marketing team has been very hard at work to raise awareness of its latest piece of PC software. Their latest attempt is a trio of 1-minute TV ads and there’s no other word for it – they are hilarious.

The large dose of all sorts of weird is mixed brilliant sense of humor and the videos are bound to put a smile on your face. The ad campaign is dubbed “Windows 8 Training Camp” and whatever you are doing right now, you have to spend three minutes of your time to check the ads out.

Here are them below.

A couple of ASUS Eee Pads announced

A couple of ASUS Eee Pads announced, pack CULV Intel Core 2 Duo, Windows 7 and some serious battery life

If you are in the hunt for a tablet running a full-fledged OS, then by all means spare a minute to check this out. ASUS, the company that sparked the netbook revolution several years ago, announced the 12-inch Windows 7-running Eee Pad EP121 and the 10-inch EP101TC that sport Windows Embedded Compact 7.

The Eee Pad EP121 (pictured above) is certainly the more interesting half of the duo with its CULV Intel Core 2 Duo CPU and 10 hours of battery life. There will also be a docking station with keyboard available for those moments when faster typing is required. Most of the other specs of the EP121 are still unknown but the start is more than promising.

With asking price between 400 and 500 US dollars I’m already feeling the temptation to get one of these Eee Pads. The thing is, they will only hit the shelves in Q1 of 2011 and it’s quite hard to predict what other alternatives will be available by then.

Lenovo refreshes the laptop ThinkPad T

Lenovo refreshes the laptop ThinkPad T, L and W series

Lenovo is keen to impress with these three updated laptop series. All of them pack some serious punch, some more than others. We’re talking specs like the new i5 and i7 Intel processors, 1GB video RAM and even a 30-hour battery life. No, really!

To break it down here’s the first three from the T series – the Lenovo ThinkPad T420, T420s (14-inch) and T520 (15.6-inch). They’re getting upgraded processors (the Intel i5 and i7). The 14-inch T420 will boot up to 30% faster and the T420s will have up to 30-hours of battery life on each charge. This will be made possible by a 9-cell battery. The Lenovo T series

Next up it’s the L series with two new candidates. The 14-inch L420 and bigger 15.6-inch L520. To wrap up, both offer ATI Radeon HD 565 graphics and Intel i5 and i7 chips. The L420 will come with a 1366×768 resolution, while the L520 will have the much better 1600×900. Both laptops will feature the serious 8GB amount of RAM.

The Lenovo W520

All-new and updated, the T, L and W series laptops will also feature improved voice calling, special keyboard noise reduction and even a LED-lit microphone-off button. Price for the T series will start from $1329 for the T420s, $779 for the T420 and $909 for the T520. Both L-series laptops will start from $719 and the W520 should be the most expensive of them all. It starts from $1329.

'Where's My Perry

'Where's My Perry?' for iOS and Android game review

Where’s My Perry? is the latest game from Disney for iOS and Android. The game is based on the previous and highly popular title Where’s My Water? but uses modified gameplay mechanics and different characters to warrant its existence as a separate game.

Where’s My Perry? stars Perry the Platypus, also known as Agent P from the Disney animated show Phineas and Ferb. Now those of you who are not six years-old would probably not recognize him but apparently he’s quite popular among the kids, which is why Disney chose to make an entire game around the character.

In Where’s My Water?, the player had to direct water (and eventually other fluids) to a pipe so that Swampy the Alligator can have a bath. In Where’s My Perry? you have to do basically the same but in this game water can exist in all its three states. The game’s premise is that Agent P is traveling through these transportation tubes but Dr. Doofenshmirtz traps him in them and the only way to free Agent P is to direct water or steam to the generator powering these tubes.

Some levels require you to direct the water, others require you to convert it to steam first. For this purpose, the game uses cleverly positioned lasers to transform water. The red laser turns ice into water and water into steam and the blue laser does the opposite. Eventually, you also get a black gel that can be used to block drains to prevent the water from running off or when mixed with the red laser turns into a red gel that evaporates water or blue gel when mixed with the blue laser that turns water into ice.

As before, you have to make proper use of the water and make sure not to waste it. You will need to manage it properly and use only as much as required. At times you’ll need to split it and use it accordingly. You need to remember that contact with lasers will convert all the water, so you will need to split it first, if required. The lasers also get deactivated once they come in contact with steam or water, so if you need them later, you have to be careful. Also, keeping water in close contact with ice turns the water into ice, which at times can be used to your benefit. You can also freeze water to create paths for the water to travel on. Red and blue lasers explode upon contact, which is useful for breaking through stone. Lastly, there is a vacuum in certain levels that sucks the water and turns it into confetti, so you need to avoid it. This might seem like a lot to remember but the game gives it to you gradually, so it’s never too much to handle when you’re playing it.

As with the previous games, there are collectibles in each level. The ducks in Where’s My Water? have been replaced with gnomes. There are two types of gnomes that you will find in this game, ones that can only be obtained with water and others only with steam. The gnomes can be killed with the lasers and the gel, so you have to be careful with those. You also have hidden secret files buried in the sand in certain levels. As before, the game lets you know when there is a secret file available for a particular level, so all you have to do is just cut through all the sand, find out where it is and then restart the level. It would have been more challenging if the game did not tell you if a secret is available in a level and left it up to the player to find it.

As before, you get score for the time you take to solve a puzzle, the number of gnomes you collect, overflow bonus for when you managed to direct more than just the minimum required amount of water or steam to progress to the next level and when available, secret files. The score gives the game a bit of replay value, so you can come back to previous levels and try to better your score by collecting more gnomes or doing it in less time.

Overall, the game is just as fun as Where’s My Water?. The puzzles offer just the right amount of challenge so that that the game never feels too easy or difficult. There are certain levels where you would feel hopelessly stuck, only to realize the solution later, which makes the victory even sweeter. If you do get permanently stuck, however, there aren’t as many walkthroughs available at the moment as there are for Where’s My Water? but they should start popping up be shortly. Just make sure you go to YouTube or any other site to check them out instead of downloading any app that might claim to offer walkthroughs as it could be a malware.

As for drawbacks, I found the constant comments from some of the other characters in the game quite annoying (Agent P himself never speaks). Most of them are either taunts from Dr. Doofenshmirtz or Major Monogram telling you to hurry up. There are few of them and they keep getting repeated with every other level. If you played Cut the Rope: Experiments, you know what I’m talking about. Thankfully, like that game, you can disable the dialogues in this game as well.

Being a 2D game, performance was mostly excellent, even on the older Nexus S. Occasionally, during the later levels when too many things are happening on the screen, the game can slow down a bit but it’s never bad enough to be annoying. Visually, the game employs the same cartoon style animation as Where’s My Water? and recent Disney cartoons.

Overall, I’d say, the game is well worth the dollar even if you have played Where’s My Water? before. Only problem right now is that there are only 80 levels, though more are planned too. If you get particularly addicted to the game, you could easily finish it in a day (assuming you’re good at it). There are a few additional levels which get unlocked as you collect more hidden files, where you have to direct a balloon through obstacles as it floats upwards, but these are not as fun as the main levels.

Where’s My Perry? is great for kids who might be able to relate to the characters better but even for adults the game is an excellent way to pass the time.

Verdict: Buy

Angry Birds has reached 350 million downloads

Angry Birds has reached 350 million downloads, consumes 300 million minutes of the world's free time each day

Millions this, millions that – the Angry Birds team are probably all patting each other on the back, celebrating passing 350 million downloads. The company’s General Manager Andrew Stalbow bragged about some other numbers – like people spending 300 million minutes each day on the popular bird-flinging game.

But it’s not just about the game anymore – the animated shorts Rovio has put up on YouTube (like this one) have gathered over 170 million views.

Angry Birds already had a tie in with the movie Rio and Stablow hinted at “some interesting entertainment partnerships that will hopefully take what we had from [Angry Birds Rio] to a totally different level.

He also said that Rovio will be focusing on Angry Birds as a franchise for now, but was mum on whether the company will start another franchise or not.

There’s no denying that Angry Birds has been good for them though – the company is reportedly valued around $1.2 billion and has become a phenomenon, leading to things like this or this.

Facebook updates photos with a new mosaic view

Facebook updates photos with a new mosaic view

Facebook has revamped the photos view in your profile, which will now show up as a mosaic of different sized photos that roughly resembles the Metro UI on the Windows 8 homescreen. It also looks very similar to the way Google+ arranges images in its photos view.

The new photos view also puts all your pictures in one location. If you want to highlight certain images, you can click on the image and select the Highlight option, at which point that photo’s thumbnail will appear four times bigger than the others. Of course, you still have the albums as before, now in a separate section.

As is usual for Facebook changes, this new update will roll out gradually to everyone, so if you don’t have it already, you should get it soon.

YouTube looking to offer paid channel subscriptions as early as Q2

YouTube looking to offer paid channel subscriptions as early as Q2

According to several sources, YouTube hopes to begin offering paid subscription channels which will offer premium, produced content.

In an attempt to lure producers away from the traditional television avenues of content delivery, Google is looking to become the first production company for online content capable of reaching such broad audience.

YouTube has allegedly reached out a select group of channel producers inquiring whether they would like to create channels with paid content, the price of which would be between $1 and $5 a month.

There’s also talk of providing paid access to coverage of live events via pay-per-view, or for specific self-help or financial advice programs.

Likely, the initial group of paid channels will be small, with around 25 being submitted for the trial run, the first of which could appear as early as this Spring.

MeeGo-running Moorestown-based Aava prototype caught in the wild

MeeGo-running Moorestown-based Aava prototype caught in the wild

While we’re still waiting for Nokia to announce its first MeeGo-powered device, the Moorestown-based Aava Mobile smartphone has already started cropping up around the globe. It has just been caught in the wild and a video is about to show up within the next couple of days.

The MeeGo is still in the works and since Nokia N900 won’t be getting it (at least not officially, though) when the new platform is ready to hit the market we’re still yet to meet the first Nokia phone packing the MeeGo.

And while Nokia is taking a nap, the competition isn’t sleeping: the first Aava prototypes (based on the Moorestown platform) have just begun surfacing. Like this one (pictured above), which posed for a quick live shot and is said to appear on a hands-on video over the following 48 hours. So, stay tuned.

8GB Archos 70 starts shipping

8GB Archos 70 starts shipping, the 250GB HDD version is still on stand-by

If you are on the hunt for a 7” Android tablet, you probably considered the Archos 70 at some point. And if you haven’t written it off for one reason or another you now have the chance to give it a hands-on in a store near you.

The ultra-slim Eclair-running tablet (Froyo update should come this month) is available for order through the company’s official US store and you can get it for 279 US dollars. In Europe some online stores have the Archos 70 in stock too, prices being around 215 GBP in the UK or 250 euro in Germany (both equaling about 350 dollars).

For that kind of cash you are getting a 7” WVGA multi-touch capacitive touchscreen, 1GHz Hummingbird CPU, USB host functionality with a standard USB port, HDMI, microSD card slot, a huge number of supported video and audio codecs and a front-facing VGA camera. There’s also a kickstand at the back to make watching those movies all the better.

And if you find the internal storage of 8GB too little, you can wait a little longer for the 250GB HDD version. Have in mind, though that it costs 75 bucks more, is 14mm thick and weighs 400g (compared to 10mm and 300 g on the 8GB version).

Now how about releasing that sweet-looking 10.1” Archos 101, too?

After numerous delays, Intel’s much-anticipated release of the new high-performance processors has finally been dated.

As an added bonus, the mobile Ivy Bridge processors will be released at the same time as their desktop counterparts. This is good news, as it was initially believed that the mobile versions might be delayed until June the least.

The mobile Core i7 and i7 Extreme lines are expected to meet that same April 29 launch date as the new desktop Core i7′s and i5′s, at prices ranging from $184 for the i5-3450 base model, to a cool $1,096 for the i7-3920XM.

All of the processors announced on the last week of April will be of the quad-core variety, while additional dual-core variants should be available on June 3.

Google+ SMS now available in 41 additional countries

Google+ SMS now available in 41 additional countries

If you haven’t heard of the Google+ SMS service until now, I wouldn’t blame you. The service isn’t particularly popular (neither is Google+, for that matter) and was only available in the US and India until now.

Google has now expanded the list of countries where the service is now functional and it includes the following places: Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Bahrain, Benin, Cambodia, Cameroon, Congo (DRC), Cote D’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Guinea, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, Tunisia, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Zambia.

So what exactly do you do with this service? It’s simple. Instead of posting messages on Google+ using the website or their dedicated app, you can post using SMS. The SMS is sent to a particular number and then the message gets posted on your Google+ profile. If people reply to it, you get the replies and notifications on your phone as an SMS. This is great for those who don’t have a smartphone or a smartphone that does not have a Google+ app, yet. It would also spare you some megabytes off the phone bill for mobile data.

Each Google I/O attendee gets free Nexus 7, Galaxy Nexus and Nexus Q

One of the first people to get the Google Nexus 7 tablet are the developers and attendees at the Google I/O conference, which is currently taking place in San Francisco.

It’s a sweet déjà vu from a year before, when Google gave away free 32GB Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Samsung Nexus S and Samsung Chromebook to each attending developer. Now the company is doing it again, but this time with its own, freshly announced Nexus 7 tablet, a brand new Galaxy Nexus and the innovative Nexus Q.

All 6000 developers and attendees will receive the aforementioned gadgets. This is the Google way of showing their gratitude to the hard-working Android developers.

What’s even better is that some of the gifted Nexus Q and Nexus 7 units will inevitably find their way to eBay in the next few days, so you might get a chance to get them before the public launch.

iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 gets untethered jailbreak

Good news for iPhone 4 users who were either running an older version of iOS for the jailbreak or running iOS 5.1 but were waiting for a proper untethered jailbreak.

iOS security researcher pod2g tweeted today that his iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 is now running untethered. As of now, though, he may be the only one with the recipe to do this although we expect a redsn0w update to come out soon which will make it available for the masses.

As of now, it can only do a tethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4, meaning you will have to keep your phone switched on or you will lose it and have to do it all over again. Hopefully, the updated version is released soon.

LG Optimus LTE SU6200 comes to spread its AH-IPS magic around our office

LG Optimus LTE SU6200 comes to spread its AH-IPS magic around our office, we unbox it on video [VIDEO]

Yet another high-end phone appeared at our doorstep today. The LG Optimus LTE SU6200 is the pioneer of the company’s brand new AH-IPS display, which aims to challenge the best on the market.

As usual on such occasions we thought you might be interested in seeing a quick hands-on video garnished with our first impressions of the smartphone.

The LG Optimus LTE’s HD AH-IPS screen is downright impressive, easily ranking among the best LCD units on the market. With a pixel density of 326 ppi, you won’t be able to spot individual pixels no matter how hard you try or how closely you look.

LG Optimus LTE SU6200LG Optimus LTE SU6200LG Optimus LTE SU6200LG Optimus LTE SU6200
LG Optimus LTE SU6200 live shots

And granted it cannot match the AMOLEDs for contrast, but it is certainly doing well in its own field. Viewing angles are splendid as well, giving the icons-painted-on-top-of-the-glass look that we love so much.

Sadly, the high resolution also seems to have a bit of a negative impact on the performance and the LG Optimus LTE isn’t as smooth as the other smartphones with a similar chipset. Then again, it might all turn out to be a matter of optimization and things might look better with an upcoming update. The Adreno 220 is not the most powerful GPU around, but it should certainly be able to handle the UI better.

Cutting to the chase, here’s the LG Optimus LTE unboxing and hands-on video.

Don’t worry, the signal strength is fine – the antenna that you saw is used for T-DMB wireless broadcast, as what you see here is a Korea-only model. That’s why we are not going to do a full review of the LG Optimus LTE – this one is not supposed to be used anywhere else.

We are going to use it for a display shootout with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, though, and see if the AH-IPS screen is all that LG makes it to be. If you are still interested in finding more about the Optimus LTE, you can check out our LG Nitro HD review, as that is simply the AT&T version of the same smartphone.

Sony promises Ice Cream Sandwich update to Tablet S

Sony promises Ice Cream Sandwich update to Tablet S, fails to mention a release date

Sony may not have had a lot of success in the tablet market but it is not going to abandon those who decided to spend their money on their Tablet S. And so to show that it will continue to support the device, Sony has just announced its intention to upgrade the tablet to Ice Cream Sandwich.

Unfortunately, Sony failed to mention any release date for the update, instead requesting its users to stay tuned. They did not say anything about the Tablet P either, which also runs Android Honeycomb at the moment.

It’s good to see that some manufacturers are still committed to their products and customers. If you want a different looking tablet from the ones that are available at the moment you may want to give the Sony Tablet S a try, now that you know that it will be updated to ICS soon. The 16GB version costs $449.99 and the 32GB model costs 549.99.

Samsung purportedly working on a 16MP Galaxy S4 Zoom cameraphone

The latest rumor suggests Samsung has a new camera-centric smartphone in the works – the Galaxy S4 Zoom, which will feature a 16MP camera sensor.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will be less powerful than the Galaxy S4 flagship. It will pack a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED screen and run on a dual or a quad-core processor.

The rest of the rumored specs include 8GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and GPS receiver. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom should run on Android Jelly Bean skinned with Samsung’s own TouchWiz UI.

As the rumor has it we can expect the Galaxy S4 Zoom to launch in June or July with SM-C1010 model number.

That’s all we know so far. If Samsung is indeed preparing such a smartphone we guess other leaks will follow soon.

Google releases YouTube Capture app for the iPhone and iPod touch

Google releases YouTube Capture app for the iPhone and iPod touch

After being dropped out of iOS 6 by Apple, the YouTube app became a standalone application that had to be downloaded from the App Store. But one of the biggest shortcomings of this app was that it was meant only for content consumption, and there was no way to upload videos from it.

Google has now released a separate application for the iPhone and iPod touch, whose only purpose is recording videos and uploading them on YouTube. You can shoot and do quick editing to your videos from within the app itself or upload one of your existing videos.

Unfortunately, the app is currently not available for the iPad. To check it out in action on an iPhone, watch the video below.

GSMArena

GSMArena.com loads faster now, thanks to our new deal with MaxCDN

At GSMArena.com we’re always looking for a way to improve the browsing experience for our users. The latest change is behind the scenes, so you’re not going to see it, but you’ll feel it – we’ve started using a CDN, which tangibly reduces page load times.

The Content Delivery Network or CDN, as it’s more commonly known, is a network of servers around the world, which serve static data (images, CSS, static html and scripts) to your browser and is a great way to improve page load times for websites with visitors from all over the world.

This way, regardless of where you are in the world in relation to our central hosting servers, your browser will always fetch the web pages and images from a CDN server that’s close to you, speeding up page load times as data doesn’t have to traverse half a world of Internet infrastructure any more.

This change should have the biggest impact on page load times for our readers in Europe, but readers in Asia, Australia and Africa should also feel a bump up in speed when browsing GSMArena.com. Load times should improve for our US-based readers too, but since the site loaded pretty fast from there already, you might need a stopwatch to notice the difference.

Thanks to MaxCDN, who made us an offer we could not refuse.

Motorola Droid Froyo update starts making its way OTA

Motorola Droid Froyo update starts making its way OTA

Rejoice Droid users! Even though Motorola already released its successor, the Americans haven’t forgotten about the original Droid. It’s getting a fresh new software update as we speak, bringing all the goodness of Froyo 2.2 to the QWERTY-packing slider.

With Froyo becoming available as an OTA update to Droids as well, the share of the latest version of the OS should receive another boost and start closing the gap to Eclair. At the moment only 4.5 percent of all androids have been blessed with Froyo, while Eclair accounts for nearly 60 percent of all devices.

Here’s hoping that the Droid GSM-loving cousin will get the same treatment in the near future.
