Next Angry Birds Seasons iteration coming later this month, Chinese New Year-themed?

We all know what Angry Birds is, right? Well if you don’t, chances are you’ve never owned a smartphone in your life or something. Anyway, the next Angry Birds seasons update is on its way to mobile OS platforms and is scheduled for this January.

The theme of the next Seasons chapter is Chinese in origin, which isn’t exactly the first we’ve seen. We’re guessing it will be connected somehow with the fact that Chinese New Year is celebrated on January 23 this year.

Here’s the promo video which is not without subtle clues as to what we’re about to see. You’ll notice two dragon transitions in the video that have an apparent mighty eagle feel to them. We’re maybe in for a mighty dragon this time, as China is entering the year of the dragon.

Hopefully those who’ve paid for the mighty eagle add-on won’t be forced to pay for the dragon one too – if it actually makes it to the game.

If it turns out that the new edition is indeed dedicated to the Chinese New Year, it won’t be the first edition centered around Chinese holidays. Anyway, I bet it’s going to be fun.

New XPERIA Play ads get creepier and creepier, even iPhone isn’t safe anymore

Sony Ericsson is hard at work with the XPERIA Play media campaign. You can really tell it’s very important for Sony Ericsson to sell the life out of this device.

The latest slew of ads feature this lunatic woman (in real life american actress Kristen Schaal, who’s actually not insane or possessed ), which absolutely looses it in front of the camera, delivering satanic messages and plain old craziness.

In one of them even the iPhone 4 gets “Pwned” and its owner stabbed in all sorts of places by the XPERIA Play-yielding player. The iPhone 4 proves absolutely useless against the advanced gaming controls of the XPERIA Play.

While we’re not so sure this is the real deal, we’ll just have to wait for it to arrive in our office so that we can give it a spin. Heck, we’ll even let the XPERIA Play loose on the iPhone 4 and check out the results.

A desktop AMD FX CPU wins the Guiness overclocking world record, hits a staggering 8.429GHz [VIDEO]

We as a race have always had a fascination with speed, making faster cars with better aerodynamics, pushing the global network faster and faster with fiber optic broadband and for power users, a PC needs a lightning fast brain to deal with those heavy duty tasks.

But what about trying to squeeze the greatest clock speed you can out of a stock CPU, just for the sake of it. That’s exactly what AMD set out to do to show off their latest Bulldozer-based FX chips and so they brought in the best they knew from the overclocking community to attempt a world record. Using a desktop PC with a new 8-core AMD FX chip, the team managed to push the clock speed to 8.429GHz, with a little help from some liquid nitrogen and helium cooling of course, but this smashed the previous record of 8.30GHz and propelled AMD to the top spot, winning the Guiness World Record title.

So Intel, are you scared yet?

Hitachi shows off bright 4

Hitachi shows off bright 4.5-inch LCD IPS display that does glasses-free 3D and has 720p resolution

Hitachi announced a new mobile IPS LCD display that also does glasses-free 3D. It’s quite a beast at 4.5″ and 720p resolution (1280 x 720 pixels) and it uses lenticular technology to create the stereoscopic effect, which allows it to be brighter when displaying 3D images.

Hitachi say that typical glasses-free 3D displays (that use a parallax barrier) have their brightness cut in half when showing 3D content. Not so with their new display – it’s actually brighter in 3D mode.

The display uses IPS technology, which means we can expect good viewing anglesy from it. It’s rated at 400 nits in 2D mode and the number jumps to 470 nits in 3D mode. Those are very good numbers, especially considering one of the major banes of 3D right now is just how dim it is (there was a lot of talk of how cinemas display very dim 3D movies, Michael Bay even wrote a letter to projectionists).

One more thing – a quick calculation shows that 720p resolution at 4.5″ means exactly 326 ppi, the exact number of the iPhone 4′s Retina display pixel density. I’m sure it’s not a coincidence but it’s strange that Hitachi didn��t brag about it.

Nokia X6 enters the review queue in all its capacitive goodness

I do admit that GSMArena.com is running a bit late on X6 review. Unfortunately sometimes getting the phones is not as easy as some of you might think. Especially when we are talking a handset of such high public interest as the Nokia X6, on which everyone wants to get their hands.

But now that we have it in, we can guarantee you that we will do our best to come up with a detailed review as soon as possible. But for now we have prepared a short unboxing video as a brief warm-up. This will also give you a chance to ask some questions that you want answered in the review.

From what our first impressions show the Nokia X6 is basically a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic mainboard, blessed with the 5530 software and a capacitive display. Okay there are a few other novelties but the handset is almost exclusively about the capacitive display.

Nokia produced one of the best resistive displays in business (N900, N97 and N97 mini) but even they realized that this technology has its limitations. So here goes the next logical step in their touchscreen evolution.

The other key feature of the Nokia X6 is the Nokia WH-500 headphones that are included in the retail package. Powerful and nicely designed, they promise to change the way we look at inbox accessories for good.

2 GHz Samsung Galaxy S II benchmarked

1.2 GHz Samsung Galaxy S II benchmarked, shows mind-blowing speed

Okay we can’t say we are stunned since the 1GHz Galaxy S II was already blazing fast, but 1.2GHz version benchmark results are still pretty impressive. Obviously Samsung has not only managed to crank the clock speed up a notch, but they have also improved their drivers as the tested unit is 25% faster than the one we had at the office.

Apparently in their current states the Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II is about twice as good as the HTC Sensation (or Pyramid if you will) on Smartbench, where it got 3732 in productivity and 2431 in gaming and it even manages to beat it at Quadrant with the astounding 3053 points. And that’s despite the framerate cap, which doesn’t allow the Galaxy S II to reveal its full potential.

Of course that has quite a lot more to do with the Sensation drivers being far from finished then the Galaxy S II being really that much faster. Still it’s yet another confirmation that if you want flawless performance the new Samsung flagship will be more than capable of delivering it.

A bunch of new Windows 8 ads surface, hilarity ensues

With Windows 8 not outpacing its predecessor in terms of sales and popularity, Microsoft’s marketing team has been very hard at work to raise awareness of its latest piece of PC software. Their latest attempt is a trio of 1-minute TV ads and there’s no other word for it – they are hilarious.

The large dose of all sorts of weird is mixed brilliant sense of humor and the videos are bound to put a smile on your face. The ad campaign is dubbed “Windows 8 Training Camp” and whatever you are doing right now, you have to spend three minutes of your time to check the ads out.
